About the Edit PDF tool

Edit PDF lets you place input fields anywhere on a document — single-line text fields, multi-line text boxes, date fields, and checkboxes — and type straight into them on the page. Move and resize each field until it lines up with the form.

Export a fillable PDF whose fields stay interactive in Acrobat, Preview, and browser viewers, or a flattened PDF where your text is permanently part of the page. Editing runs in your browser; downloading requires Pro.

  • Use a fillable PDF when someone else still needs to complete the form.
  • Choose flattened when the document is final and should not change.
  • Works in every language — matching fonts for Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic and more are added automatically on export.

Edit PDF — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between fillable and flattened?
A fillable PDF keeps real form fields, so anyone can keep typing into them in Acrobat, Preview, or a browser. A flattened PDF bakes the text into the page so it can no longer be changed.
Is Edit PDF free?
You can upload a PDF and place and fill fields for free to try it. Downloading the edited PDF requires Pro ($0.99/month or $9.99/year).
How is this different from the Sign tool?
Sign is for finalizing documents with your signature, initials, and checkmarks. Edit PDF is for building and filling form fields.
Does my document get uploaded?
No. Editing and exporting happen entirely in your browser.
